Troopers Seize Illicit Drugs and Firearm After Multi-Parish Pursuit

On January 1, 2022 around 1:45 pm, Troopers observed a black Infiniti M35 traveling East on I-10 near Bonnabel Blvd at a high rate of speed. After verifying the speed to be 95 mph in a 60 mph posted speed limit, the Trooper activated his emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. The driver of the Infiniti refused to stop and fled from Troopers at a high rate of speed. A pursuit ensued continuing through various city streets and ended when the Infiniti crashed into the rear of an unrelated vehicle on Norman C. Francis Highway near Drexle Drive. After the crash, the driver was quickly apprehended by Troopers while a passenger in the Infiniti fled on foot. The driver of the Infiniti initially provided a false name and through investigative measures, was later identified as 24-year-old Charlie Franklin. The passenger was unable to be located and is believed to have left the area in a separate vehicle.
As part of the on scene investigation, a search of the vehicle was conducted which led to the findings of the following:
Approximately 3.5 pounds of Marijuana
A fully loaded CD Defense PAC-9 Semi-Automatic pistol
6 boxes of liquid THC
Various paraphernalia consistent with the distribution of narcotics
Subsequently, Franklin was arrested for Reckless Operation; Aggravated Flight From An Officer; Simple Criminal Damage to Property; Possession of Firearm in the Presence of Controlled Dangerous Substance; Possession With Intent To Distribute Schedule I Narcotics (2 counts); Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Franklin was transported to Orleans Parish Prison and will be booked accordingly. Additionally, Franklin will face charges in Jefferson Parish for Speeding.
Troopers will continue the investigation to determine the identity of the passenger and their actions after the crash. Franklin was uninjured in the crash and the driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. This investigation is ongoing and any updates will be released at a later date.
