LUTCHER — St. James Parish Hospital is proud to announce the 2021 Employees of the Third Quarter, Fabian Steib, phlebotomist, and Leslie Fisher, RN, education coordinator and ER manager. Both employees were nominated by fellow staff and chosen by the Executive Leadership Team for their dedication to the hospital.

Fabian attended St. James High School and went on to graduate as a patient care technician from SCLC in 2017. He is currently enrolled in nursing school at River Parishes Community College. He serves as a phlebotomist in the lab department and has been with the hospital for nearly four years.

Fabian was nominated by multiple team members which include: Andrea Fabre, MT, Gwen Blank, MT, lab supervisor, Lorain Landry, RN, and the ER Relief Team.

Nominations referenced his positive attitude, willingness to do whatever is needed and crucial role helping staff and patients during Hurricane Ida.

“Fabian stepped up during the hurricane, helping out in all departments. He is always first to help when needed and goes above and beyond,” said Andrea Fabre, MT.

“During Hurricane Ida Fabian worked tirelessly for days. He drew patients as well as brought results back to the ER or wherever they needed to go. Working over 20 days in a row with no days off is not easy, but he did it with a smile,” said Gwen Blank, MT, lab supervisor.

“Fabian is always amazing to work with. After the hurricane, he was beyond phenomenal with the relief team in the ER. He anticipated the labs that needed to be drawn just by knowing the complaint of the patients. Every day, he kept the ER running a little smoother,” said Lorrain Landry, ER RN.

Fabian commented, “I would like to thank all my coworkers (lab, all the nursing staff, doctors, radiology team, CNAs, etc.). I appreciate all of them. I really enjoy working with all of the patients, because they help me make it through every single day.”

Leslie attended Riverside Academy and graduated from Our Lady of the Lake College in 2004 with an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) and in 2006 with a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN). She joined the hospital team in 2018 and has been in nursing for nearly 17 years. She currently serves as the hospital’s education coordinator and ER nurse manager.

Leslie was nominated by Karley Babin, RN, acute care nurse manager. Karley stated, “Leslie is always going over and beyond for employees, patients and her work friends. In the last few years, she stepped out of her role as an educator and has played a vital role during multiple COVID surges, our new software implementation and Hurricane Ida recovery.”

“She recently came out on a Saturday to call in patient transfers and get a very critical patient placed. She does anything with a smile and consistently says how this is HER community and she will do whatever it takes for them,” said Karley.

Leslie responded, “I absolutely love caring for others. I love being a nurse. I am so thankful for all the help and support my family has provided me so that I could follow my passion and grow professionally.”

She added, “I am truly blessed and honored to work with the most hardworking, dedicated and passionate group of people at SJPH.”
