Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited three men for alleged federal migratory game bird violations on Nov. 28 in Rapides Parish.

Agents cited Douglas Brown, 36, of Cheneyville, Joshua Cavanaugh, 37, and Julie Cavanaugh, 33, both of Richmond Hill, Georgia, for hunting migratory game birds over baited area or by aid of baiting.  Brown was also charged with aiding and abetting others in taking migratory game birds over bait and hunting migratory game birds with an unplugged gun.  Julie Cavanaugh was also cited for violating non-toxic shot requirements.

Agents were on patrol in Rapides Parish in the morning on Nov. 28 when they observed multiple individuals duck hunting from a blind in a field near Cheneyville.  Agents made contact with the subjects and determined the area was illegally baited.  Brown confessed to placing the bait.

This case has been filed with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for prosecution in Federal Court.

Agents participating in the case are Lt. John Volentine, Sgt. James Bruce, Senior Agent Kenny Robertson, Senior Agent Derek Ware and Agent Ryan Durand.
