GARYVILLE – Garyville refinery leadership announced today nearly $2 million in community investments, benefiting the refinery’s nearby communities.

“We express our sincere appreciation to Marathon Petroleum for their generous donation during this challenging time,” said St. John the Baptist Parish President Jaclyn Hotard. “We are grateful for the continued support of partners like Marathon, as we work together to recover and rebuild following Hurricane Ida.”

Marathon Petroleum’s Vice President of Refining Michael Henschen addressed community members directly at today’s 23rd Annual St. John United Way Golf Classic, which took place at the Riverlands Golf and Country Club in LaPlace.

“We’ve shown what happens when everyone comes together for the betterment of our community,” said Henschen. “We not only help each other endure challenges like Hurricane Ida, but we develop programs and initiatives that make our community stronger.”

Marathon Petroleum’s community investments (as depicted in the following posters displayed at the community celebration) benefit nonprofit organizations and local governments, including the Red Cross of Southeastern Louisiana, St. John United Way, St. John the Baptist Parish, New Wine Development Corp. Inc, St. James Parish, Ascension Parish, Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation, River Parishes Community College and the St. John the Baptist Public School System.

“Today is about pausing, as our community still recovers from Hurricane Ida, to celebrate how far we’ve come and where we are going,” said Marathon Petroleum ESG and Stakeholder Engagement Representative Iman Montgomery. “At Marathon Petroleum, we are proud to do our part to positively contribute to where we work and live.”

Eighty-one teams participated in the day’s golf tournament, also presented by Marathon Petroleum, which benefits the St. John United Way.

About Marathon Petroleum Corporation’s Garyville Refinery

The Garyville refinery is located along the Mississippi River in southeastern Louisiana between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. It employees approximately 900 full-time employees and has a crude oil refining capacity of 578,000 barrels per calendar day (bpcd). It is configured to process a wide variety of crude oils into gasoline, distillates, fuel-grade coke, asphalt, polymer-grade propylene, propane, refinery-grade propylene, dry gas, slurry and sulfur. Products at the refinery are transported by pipeline, barge, transport truck, rail and ocean tanker. The refinery has access to the export market and multiple options to sell refined products. A major expansion project was completed in 2009 that increased Garyville’s crude oil refining capacity, making it one of the largest refineries in the U.S.
