LAPLACE — Parish President Jaclyn Hotard announced that the Lighting of the Bonfires will return on Christmas Eve in St. John the Baptist Parish. This unique holiday tradition brings thousands of residents and visitors to the River Parishes on Christmas to revel in the beauty of the bonfires lined along the levee, creating a lighted path for Papa Noel and his reindeer.

Parish President Hotard said, “Bonfires are a very special tradition and residents work very hard crafting these structures to light the way for Papa Noel. We are excited to bring the Christmas bonfires back to St. John this year to help spread Christmas joy at a time when our community needs it most.”

In an effort to conduct this event safely, permits are required for construction of a bonfire on the levee. Beginning November 19, permit applications will be available at the Emergency Operations Center in LaPlace, located at 1801 W. Airline Highway.
