LAPLACE — The St. Charles Catholic JV and Varsity volleyball teams opened district play on October 5 at Thomas Jefferson. After a close first game, the Varsity came out strong and defeated the Jaguars by scores of 26-24, 25-10, and 25-16. The team was led by Mya Brown with 12 kills, Morgan Nuccio with seven kills and two service aces, Madison Hebert with six kills and one ace, and Sarah Beth Sirmon with four kills and six aces.

 

On October 7, the John Curtis Patriots arrived for a district match up and were defeated by the Comets. Mya Brown had 18 kills, Madison Hebert had 15 kills and two blocks, Morgan Nuccio had 11 kills and one service ace, Sarah Beth Sirmon had 38 assists and one ace; defensively, the Comets were led by Camryn Triche with seven digs, Hannah Brady and Sarah Sirmon with five digs each, and Haley Scioneaux with four digs. The Varsity continued their win streak on October 12 and 14 by defeating St. James and Donaldsonville on the road. Sarah Beth Sirmon began serving and had 18 aces, while Madison Hebert and Rylee San Andres each added two kills. This puts the Lady Comets in first place in district with a 4-0 record and 5-4 overall.

 

The JV volleyball team defeated Thomas Jefferson and St. James. The team battled with John Curtis in three games but fell short.

 

The Varsity team competed in Chalmette on October 16. The team lost three hard fought battles with Chalmette, Thibodaux and Ben Franklin. The Lady Comets returned home on October 19 for their final district match against Patrick Taylor. The Varsity played a heart-pounding five-game match but were victorious by scores of 25-27, 25-14, 23-25, 25-15, and 17-15. Mya Brown was a team leader with 15 kills and two solo blocks. Madison Hebert added 11 kills, four solo blocks, and six service aces. Morgan Nuccio had four kills, Sydney Remondet, Haley Scioneaux, and Sarah Beth Sirmon had two kills each, and libero Camryn Triche had three kills. Defensively, the team had 18 digs. Sarah Beth Sirmon had a match high with 28 assists and added five service aces. The JV team took the first game easily by a score of 25-8 and won the game 2 -25-22.

 

On Wednesday, October 20 the JV and Varsity took on Riverside at Comet gym. The JV won by scores of 25-15 and 25-20, giving them a 4-3 record. The varsity won in four games. After losing the first game 25-27, the Comets came back and won three straight by scores of 25-11, 25-9, and 25-20. There were 13 service aces for the match. Mya Brown led with 16 kills and five solo blocks, Madison Hebert added eight kills, three service aces, and one solo block. Morgan Nuccio had four kills, two service aces, and four digs; Sarah Beth Sirmon had 22 assists, two kills, and three service aces. Haley Scioneaux and Sydney Remondet each added a kill, and Haley had two service aces. Camryn Triche received the Sacrament of Confirmation and Hannah Brady moved from defensive specialist to libero, where she had seven digs and three service aces.
