RESERVE — The St. John Industrial Group includes seven members in 2021: Air Products SMR (Garyville), ChampionX (a new company to this group that recently achieved its one-year anniversary), Denka Performance Elastomer, DuPont, Evonik – Garyville, Evonik – Reserve and Nalco Water.

Due to the success of the 2020 program and because of Hurricane Ida and COVID-19 uncertainties, the St. John Industrial Group maintained its manner for sharing emission data in 2021. In years’ prior, the group hosted an environmental art contest for St. John Parish school students in third through sixth grades and announced the winners during a fall breakfast meeting attended by students, their families, teachers and principals, as well as invited guests including a broad cross-section of the community and elected officials. As the St. John Industrial Group shared emission data, this annual event became an opportunity for young students to become more aware of the environment, become interested in science and have the chance to express their ideas artistically.

With schools, students, teachers and families continuing to experience challenges, the industrial group enhanced its 2020 plan. St. John Industrial Group will not host the art contest nor the breakfast again this year. On November 15, St. John Industrial Group will mail postcards to every household and business in St. John the Baptist Parish encouraging residents to visit the website where emission data is shared on each company’s page. The complete St. John Industrial Group newsletter is now available online at www.stjohnig.com.

As an incentive to visit and review the information and to support local businesses, St. John Industrial Group is offering a chance to win one of six $50 gift certificates to local restaurants. The restaurants include: Mabile’s Restaurant, Pier 51 Seafood Restaurant & Oyster Bar and Rotolo’s Pizzeria, all of which are now re-opened. This event is intended to support the community’s small businesses and provide a fun opportunity for those six lucky winners. This is twice the amount of prizes as last year! Please read the newsletter in its entirety and submit your name, e-mail and best phone number where you may be reached. Visit www.stjohnig.com for contest details.

Winners will be selected from e-mail entries received in a drawing held on December 15, 2021. Six winners will be announced by December 17, 2021. Only one entry per e-mail will be used in the drawing. Please visit www.stjohnig.com and be on the lookout for your postcard in the mail around November 15.
