St. John Parish Public Schools share reopening schedules for in-person & virtual learning

STEM & High Schools Reopening Plan – Starting October 18

St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools will resume in-person instruction for older students on Monday, October 18 on a platoon schedule.

Due to limited buildings being available by October 18, the schedule has been divided into shifts (platoons) allowing schools to take turns using the classrooms and other physical resources of a shared site.

The East St. John Prep and West St. John High campuses will be utilized. Schedules are subject to change.

 

East St. John Prep Campus

Morning Platoon (7:05 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.) – All STEM students and East St. John 11th and 12th grade ONLY

Afternoon Platoon (12:25 p.m. to 5:05 p.m.) – St. John Alternative Program and East St. John High 9th and 10th grade ONLY

 

West St. John High Campus

Morning Platoon (7:20 a.m. to noon) – All West St. John eighth through 12th graders

(Afternoon platoon will be used for elementary students; see information below)

 

Pre-K through 8th grade Reopening Plan – Starting October 11

St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools will resume in-person instruction for younger students on Monday, October 11 on a platoon schedule.

Due to limited buildings being available by October 11, the schedule has been divided into shifts (platoons) allowing schools to take turns using the classrooms and other physical resources of a shared site.

A tiered return schedule will be in effect.

  • Pre-K through second grade will attend school on Monday, October 11.
  • Pre-K through fifth grade will be in the classroom on Tuesday, October 12.
  • All students in Pre-K through eighth grade will attend school Wednesday, October 13 through Friday, October 15.

The Lake Pontchartrain Elementary, Fifth Ward Elementary and West St. John High campuses will be utilized.

 

Lake Pontchartrain Campus

Morning Platoon (7 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.) – LPE and ECW

Afternoon Platoon (12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.) – LES

 

Fifth Ward Elementary Campus

Morning Platoon (7:38 a.m. to 12:08 p.m.) – FEW and ESJP

Afternoon Platoon (12:30 to 5 p.m.) – JLO and GMMS

 

West St. John High Campus

Afternoon Platoon (12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.) – WSJE

 

Virtual Learning – Pre-K through 12th Grade

Virtual scholars will start school on October 18. Specific information on the virtual learning academy will be sent on October 14. Distribution of laptops for virtual learning will take place at Lake Pontchartrain Elementary in accordance with the following schedule:

STEM – Oct. 11, 8 to 10 a.m.

WSJH – Oct. 11, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

WSJE – Oct. 11, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

ESJH – Oct. 11, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

ECW – Oct. 12, 8 to 10 a.m.

LPE – Oct. 12, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

LES – Oct. 12, 1 to 3:30 p.m.

FWE – Oct. 13, 8 to 10 a.m.

ESJP – Oct. 13, 8 to 10 a.m.

SJA – Oct. 13, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

GMMS – Oct. 13, 1 to 2 p.m.

JLO – Oct. 13, 2 to 3 p.m.

ALL SITES – Additional hours if you couldn’t make your scheduled time – Oct. 14, 8 a.m. to noon AND 1:30 to 3 p.m.

 

Transportation Information

Bus Pick-up Times: Morning platoon high school students should be at the bus stop by 6:05 a.m. Morning platoon elementary students should be at the bus stop by 6:30 a.m.

Afternoon platoon high school students and elementary school students should be at the bus stop for 11 a.m.

All bus routes have been designed based on the physical address provided to the district’s office. Bus drivers will try to maintain all original routes and bus stops, with the understanding of some routes having to be adjusted based on the needs of scholars and schools.

The Transportation Hotline, 985-479-7790, will be operated by staff members on weekdays between 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. from October 8 until October 25.

 

Nutrition Information

Scholars will receive a healthy meal twice per school shift. The morning platoon will receive breakfast and lunch, and the afternoon platoon will receive lunch and supper.

 

Uniforms

While school uniforms should be worn to the greatest extent possible once students return to the classroom, St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools administration understands that some scholars will not be in uniform due to circumstances relating to Hurricane Ida.

Starting October 11, the dress code is as follows:

  • Males – No basketball shorts, no tattered shorts or pants, no inappropriate slogans on clothing (gang-related, drugs/alcohol/guns, suggestive and/or explicit language)
  • Females – No leggings, no tight-fitting garments, no exposed shoulders or mid-section (stomach), no basketball shorts, no tattered shorts or pants, no inappropriate slogans on clothing (gang-related, drugs/alcohol/guns, suggestive and/or explicit language)

Closed in shoes are required, and face masks must be worn.
