As we begin to rebuild our lives in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, the most devastating storm to hit Louisiana, the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office would like to assure citizens that officers continue to take their responsibility to protect life and property very seriously.

We continue to work around the clock, double shifts, including officers from all units, deployed for patrol duties. At this time, the curfew placed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. will remain in the interest of public safety.

We want to do what is necessary to provide security for the hundreds of devastated homes and businesses in our community. We feel the curfew also allows people the time to conduct business. During curfew, deputies are using discretion when encountering people. We understand that many people are out and about taking care of their homes and businesses. But, if you’re out after curfew, you may be stopped.

Looting and scavengering continue in many neighborhoods. We’ve also seen an uptick in the amount of movement overnight. Residents are very concerned about the safety of their property.

We are making felony arrests throughout the parish. Since August 30, 2021, we have made more than 150 arrests for looting, burglary, curfew violations, drug-related charges and firearms.

Our top priority is public safety as we help our community recover.
