Louisiana Public Broadcasting will raise the curtain on the ninth season of Art Rocks! The Series on Friday, October 1 at 8:30PM. Art Rocks! is LPB’s weekly series that spotlights artists, performance, culture, literature, history and the impact of art in our world. Each episode includes a feature story about a Louisiana artist or arts organization, highlights current exhibitions around the state, and features segments on the arts from across the country from PBS affiliates.

For the Season 9 opener, puppeteer, Clay Achee of Baton Rouge, talks about his digital-first collaboration with LPB, Ziggy’s Arts Adventure, an educational puppet series about a 9-year-old alien who travels to Earth in search of art. Upcoming Art Rocks! episodes include profiles on mixed media visual artist, Candice Alexander of Lake Charles; Zydeco musician, Rusty Metoyer, also from Lake Charles; spoken-word artist and Caddo Parish Poet Laureate, Poetic X; fine art photographer and author of the photography book, Louisiana Trail Riders, Jeremiah Ariaz of Baton Rouge, and more.

LPB Executive Producer Linda Midgett says, “LPB is proud to share the stories about Louisiana’s resilient and thriving community of artists, who have weathered the unpredictability of the past year and continue to offer their talents as inspiration for us all. We are delighted that PBS member stations around the country share our Art Rocks! segments about Louisiana artists to their audiences, as well.”

Art Rocks! is hosted by James Fox-Smith, Publisher of Country Roads Magazine and produced by LPB Senior Producer Dorothy Kendrick. A new episode of Art Rocks! premieres each Friday at 8:30PM and encores Saturday at 5:30PM on the six-station LPB network that includes stations in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe and Shreveport.
