LAPLACE — As residents of the River Parishes struggle to recover from Hurricane Ida,  several area organizations are sponsoring relief efforts to assist them.
Beginning at 5 p.m. tomorrow (Sept. 23), LaPlace residents can receive a catered hot meal, cleaning supplies, water and gasoline cards at Arcuri Center (1020 Cambridge Drive, LaPlace).
Among sponsors of the event are organizations represented by mother-daughter trio Sylvia Taylor (Sylvia Taylor & Associates, Attorneys at Law), daughter Syrita Steib (founder and executive director, Operation Restoration) and daughter Aspen Steib (board chair, River Region Chamber of Commerce).
Ms. Taylor is a resident of LaPlace. Syrita and Aspen grew up in nearby Vacherie, where they will sponsor a similar event on September 29 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Hall. They will be available for interviews tomorrow.
Co-sponsors of the relief event are Kendrick Construction, LaPlace Rotary Club and LA Health Solutions. The event will continue as long as food and supplies last.
