LAPLACE — On August 29, we all watched in horror as Hurricane Ida made landfall as a strong Category 4 storm. In the immediate aftermath, it was clear that many of the hardest-hit areas were being overlooked, including Braveheart’s founder Erica Rogers’ hometown of LaPlace, Louisiana. Many residents are still without power, trying to rebuild their homes and lives with limited access to resources.
Rogers said Braveheart is ready to distribute an abundance of supplies for cleaning and household needs that can get residents on the journey to recovery. Two 18 wheelers full of supplies and equipment are coming to LaPlace.
The Hurricane Relief Day will include food, supplies, and a focus on education and health. Align Infusions / Braveheart Foundation “Krewe of Vax” will provide Pfizer vaccines for individuals ages 12 and up. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until supplies are depleted on Friday, Sept. 17 at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, located at 1900 Greenwood Drive in LaPlace.
With the leadership of St. John the Baptist, District 4 Councilwoman Tyra Duhe-Griffin, the overwhelming support of Grammy-nominated artist Andra Day, and the commitment of our Braveheart team, we know this distribution will be a success. We hope you will join us to maximize our impact and get essential supplies into the community.
A special thanks goes to Andra Day, who reached out to Councilwoman Duhe-Griffin, ready to help and support this community in its greatest time of need.
Duhe-Griffin also thanks the Rotary Club of LaPlace for donating a warehouse full of supplies. Assessor Lucien Gauff, president of the Rotary Club of LaPlace, has been instrumental to the planning of this event.
There are two ways to donate. Click here to make a donation online for us to purchase additional supplies.
Those who wish to support this event may also deliver supplies by Thursday, September 16 directly to the distribution site at Ascension Of Our Lord Catholic Church and School, 1900 Greenwood Drive, LaPlace. Supplies needed include cleaning items, white vinegar, diapers (adult and baby), sanitary wipes, mops/brooms, deodorant and cleaning gloves.
