NEW ORLEANS — Periods of heavy rainfall related to Tropical Storm Nicholas are expected to impact portions of Texas and Louisiana today through the middle of the week, according to the 4 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

Tropical Storm Nicholas has 40 mph winds and is currently located more than 200 miles south-southeast of the U.S. border.

Tropical storm and hurricane watches are in effect along parts of the Texas border. Landfall is projected for late Monday to early Tuesday, and Nicholas could be near hurricane intensity if it moves to the right of the predicted track and remains over water longer.

While flash flood watches are concentrated in Texas and Southwest Louisiana, the Southeast portion of Louisiana could see a rainy pattern for the first half of this week. Localized rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are expected between Sept. 12-17.
