LAPLACE — It is estimated that 1.4 million Veterans are currently at-risk of becoming homeless. Sadly, the factors that will push these Veterans into homelessness are numerous – medical or mental illness, PTSD, Substance Abuse Disorder, financial, unemployment, etc.

What cannot be measured is the impact of a natural disaster on those Veterans at greatest risk. As a result of the recent devastation left by Hurricane Ida in New Orleans and throughout Louisiana, The Journey Home (TJH) of Indiana will deploy its Veterans’ Mobile Disaster Response Team (VMDRT) to Louisiana to help displaced Veterans and their families impacted by the hurricane.

The team is partnering with a coalition of experienced disaster relief businesses and nonprofit organizations – Bales Environmental, Kentwood, Louisiana; Carpenter House Global, Lillian, Alabama; The Hope Center, Pensacola, Florida; and Radiant Church, Greenville, Ohio – have set up their command center at the First Baptist Church of LaPlace (120 Ormond Blvd., LaPlace, LA. 70068).

From the commander center, the disaster relief coalition will aid in providing meals, supplies and outreach services to help rebuild community organizations and lift up those in need. TJH team will specialize in providing impacted Veterans and their families with case management services, linkage to vital local, regional and national Veteran resources to initiate the rebuilding process and restore their way of life.
