LAPLACE — Each year, the Knights of Columbus, Ascension of Our Lord Council 9623 awards its Knight of The Year Award. This year’s award winner is Yancy Forsythe.

Yancy is the financial secretary for Council 9623.

This office is a very important position in any Knights of Columbus Council. The financial secretary is the “right hand man” to the grand knight.

Yancy has accomplished numerous things this year to earn the Knight of the Year Award.

Yancy was involved with the admission degree team, as well as participating in the numerous community programs.

Although 2020-21 was a very difficult time for the council due to COVID-19 concerns, Council 9623 was able to continue moving forward with programs to assist the Covid-19 families, who were forced to quarantine in their homes.

Council 9623 is also hosting a chicken meal fundraiser from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 in the front of Ascension of Our Lord Catholic School, 1809 Greenwood Drive in LaPlace. For $12, you can purchase a meal consisting of baked chicken leg quarters, baked beans, Cajun boiled corn and a dessert. All major credit cards, debit cards, personal checks and cash will be accepted. This fundraiser will benefit Ascension of Our Lord Catholic School.
