Avondale – On Tuesday August 17, 2021 around 4:45 am Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a two-vehicle crash on US 90 near West Tish Drive in Avondale. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 35-year-old Christopher Molina of Westwego.

The initial investigation revealed that Molina was driving a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle west on US 90. At the same time, a 2006 Mack tractor trailer exited a private parking lot and crossed the westbound lanes of US 90 before beginning to turn left onto US 90 east. The Harley-Davidson struck the rear of the trailer and Molina was ejected from the motorcycle. On scene evidence as well as witness statements indicate Molina was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. Despite wearing a DOT approved helmet, Molina suffered severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured. Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers and will be submitted for analysis. Troopers are still processing evidence pertaining to the crash and any criminal and traffic charges will be forwarded to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office at the conclusion of the investigation.

Troopers encourage all riders to attend an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses teach safe riding practices and help you apply safe riding strategies that can help reduce your chance of injury should a crash occur.
