1977 – Ole Man River rings out deep and true when sung by Jerome Washington, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Washington of Reserve. He will present his first recital in the Leon Godchaux High School auditorium. Although he personally prefers the classics, he has included Old Man River in his program to please his father, who told him “he owed it to people.” Jerome has sung the popular song at so many functions it is practically his theme song. H received his first standing ovation sining it at 4-H Short Course talent contest at LSU.
