Baton Rouge – Telling Louisiana’s stories is what Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) does best. During our August Membership Drive, LPB offers viewers a wide-range of programs that showcase our state’s unique history, culture, and music.

Finding Cajun Tuesday, August 17 at 8:30PM – The origin and evolution of “Cajun” identity is a complex issue and hotly debated by some. In the documentary film Finding Cajun, filmmaker Nathan Rabalais presents a critical and historically informed perspective. The film looks at how Cajuns compare to the present-day Acadians in maritime Canada, a community that is supposedly at the historical root of Cajun ethnicity. It also explores how cultural and racial labels in Louisiana have shifted, especially over the past 70 years, and considers the stakes of maintaining (or losing) heritage languages in the United States. American Masters: Buddy Guy- The Blues Chase The Blues Away Wednesday, August 18 at 7:00PM – This Lettsworth, Louisiana, legend is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time! American Masters dives into the career of Buddy Guy, a pioneer of Chicago’s West Side sound and major influence on rock titans like Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. Featuring new performances and interviews with John Mayer, Carlos Santana and more. Baton Rouge bluesman and bandmate Kenny Neal offers stories and perspectives during breaks in the program. Encore: Sunday, August 22 at 9:00PM.

Ziggy’s Arts Adventure Thursday, August 19 at 7:00 PM – Gather the kids around and enjoy the broadcast premiere of this new LPB digital educational children’s series. You’ll see the first three episodes plus learn a bit about education that’s behind the entertainment of this exciting new program with so much Louisiana flair! You’ll also meet the man behind Ziggy…and of course, Ziggy himself! Encores: Saturday, August 21 at 9:00AM and Sunday, August 22 at 5:00PM.

Fats Domino: Walkin’ Back to New Orleans Thursday, August 19 at 8:00 PM – This documentary chronicles music legend Fats Domino’s triumphant return to the stage after Hurricane Katrina’s devastation to his New Orleans hometown. Two years after a harrowing rescue from the storm, Domino headlined a 2007 benefit concert for the city, performing hits like “Blueberry Hill,” and “Ain’t That a Shame” to an adoring audience. The special, narrated by actor John Goodman, captures the concert and provides an up-close, biographical look at Domino’s storied career. Encore: Tuesday, August 24 at 7:00 PM.

Clementine Hunter’s World Monday, August 23 at 7:00 PM – Clementine Hunter – self-taught artist and Louisiana icon. She painted thousands of images recalling her life on a 20th century plantation. This visual diary of her life in Melrose, Louisiana, shed new light on the often untold stories of the African Americans workers. This fascinating Louisiana produced documentary combines vintage photographs with the work of the artist herself to bring Clementine’s story to life. Encore: Saturday, August 28 at 8:00 PM.

T-Galop: A Louisiana Horse Story Thursday, August 26 at 7:00 PM – Creole cowboys and Cajun jockeys, Cotton Knights and Mardi Gras revelers reveal the long history and blend between Creoles and Cajuns and the horses they love. This equine love affair began more than 250 years ago on the first ranches of South Louisiana. Creoles and Cajuns are some of America’s first cowboys. Not only essential to hard ranch work, horses were often the focus of French Louisiana’s renowned joie de vivre. T-GALOP romps playfully across South Louisiana through professional sports to community rituals bearing witness to a modern horse culture that was born many centuries ago.
