Baton Rouge – This morning, shortly after 11:30 AM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash on US 61 (Airline Highway) at Alco Avenue in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 66-year-old Yolanda Schuchard of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Schuchard was traveling westbound on Alco Avenue in a 2013 Toyota Camry. At the same time, a 2017 Chevrolet 2500 was traveling northbound on US 61. For reasons still under investigation, Schuchard failed to yield at a stop sign and traveled into the northbound lanes of US 61 in front of the Chevrolet 2500. This resulted in the Chevrolet 2500 impacting the driver’s side of Schuchard’s Toyota Camry.

Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the crash; however, Schuchard sustained fatal injuries. Schuchard was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet 2500 sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local area hospital. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.

Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Please take a moment to speak with your loved ones about the importance of their safe decisions while operating a motor vehicle.
