LAPLACE — Three-year-old Claire Lambremont has a long journey ahead as she begins her fight against Ewing’s Sarcoma, but her spirit shines bright, and she has an entire “Claire Bear’s Army” standing with her.

More than 350 people turned out to support Claire during a golf tournament and auction benefit held July 30 at Riverlands Golf and Country Club in LaPlace.

While Claire currently resides in Ascension Parish, her family has strong ties to St. John. Her parents, Jay and Meghan Lambremont, are graduates of St. Charles Catholic High School. Jay also works for Marathon Petroleum in St. John Parish and has shown his support during various community events.

Jay and Meghan found out their precious little girl had a malignant tumor at the end of May 2021. In the second week of June, Claire was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that affects the bones and surrounding tissue.

Jay’s sisters, Stephanie Cosse and Lisa Seruntine, reached out to Riverlands about hosting a benefit for Claire to raise funds for medical expenses as she undergoes treatment at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge.

Organizer Henri Dufresne said more than 50 teams signed up for the four-person scramble golf tournament, and more than 100 people donated various items, time and energy to make the event a success. Big ticket items donated by the community for an onsite auction included but were not limited to fishing trips, firearms, ice chests, TVs, golf trips and cooking equipment.

According to Dufresne, supporting someone in need is the most humbling thing a human being can do.

“We had countless sponsors. We literally did not have to spend a dime to be able to put on this golf tournament because of the community’s generosity. The willingness of everyone to do whatever they can has been unbelievable. There are no limits to what people are willing to do for Claire,” Dufresne said.

Cosse and Seruntine had tears in their eyes when they said the community response has been overwhelming.

“We cannot thank everyone enough. It’s touching. It really is,” Cosse said. “We know that there’s good people in this world, but you never know how many until you are faced with something like this.”

Claire’s family is confident she will push through and beat cancer. They said Claire is full of energy, and between the twinkle in her eyes and her vibrant personality, it can be hard to believe she’s sick.
