NEW ORLEANS – U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced today that Demetrius Lamont Fiorentino, Jr., age 26, a resident of New Castle, Delaware, pleaded guilty on July 28, 2021 to a one-count Superseding Bill of Information, charging him with possession with the intent to distribute a quantity of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl.

According to court documents, this charge stems from a consensual search of Fiorentino’s bags by Amtrak Police as Fiorentino was about to board an Amtrak train in New Orleans to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 1, 2020. During the search of Fiorentino’s bags, law enforcement found approximately 6.5 kilograms of fentanyl.

The Honorable District Court Judge Martin L. C. Feldman will sentence Fiorentino on October 27, 2021. Fiorentino faces a maximum sentence of up to twenty years of imprisonment, a fine up to $1,000,000.00, a period of supervised release not less than three years, and a mandatory assessment fee of $100.00.

The case was investigated by Amtrak, Louisiana State Police, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant United States Attorney Bayonle Osundare is prosecuting the matter.
