SCSO makes arrest in 4th of July hit and run

Sheriff Champagne announces the arrest of Darryle Dewayne Evans, Jr., in relation to the hit-and-run that occurred on July 4, 2021, injuring a 4-year-old child on Paul Fredrick Street.

On July 4, 2021 at approximately 9:48 p.m., deputies responded to a Hit-and-Run that occurred in the 600 block of Paul Fredrick Street located in Luling, Louisiana. During the initial investigation, deputies learned that an unknown make or model dark colored sports utility vehicle (SUV) traveling at a high rate of speed struck a 4-year-old child that was in the roadway. The driver initially stopped, but fled the scene in the vehicle moments after. The driver was described as a black male.
During the course of the investigation, sufficient evidence was obtained and a warrant was granted for the arrest of Evans, issued from the 29th Judicial District Court.
On July 27, 2021 Evans was arrested and booked under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:100 relative to Felony Hit-and-Run with Serious Injury, and Louisiana Revised Statute 14:39.1 relative to Vehicular Negligent Injuring.
