1976 – Smiling Happily, these six Head Start youngsters display the new school bags they will take to first grade, along with other St. John the Baptist Parish children. The important first day of school is easier for children who participate in the Head Start program, who have attended pre-school classes during the summer. This year, some 215 children took part in the program and most received their school bags from the Mother’s Clubs of their groups on Picnic Day throughout the parish.
