EDGARD — After six years of leading the West St. John Rams football team, head coach Brandon Walters surprised the community when he announced his resignation Wednesday morning, just one month before the start of the 2021 high school football season.

Walters’ tenure at West St. John culminated in a 43-32 record and a 2017 Class 1A State Championship title. Prior to coaching in Edgard, Walters was an assistant football coach at two high schools in New Orleans.

Walters expressed that his journey as a coach is not over, but he felt it was time for him to leave St. John Parish and return home to New Orleans.

Both Walters and his wife are graduates of McDonough 35 High School.

As of press time, West St. John had not indicated who will be taking over as the head football coach and athletic director for the 2021-2022 school year.
