A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division agent arrested a Chalmette man for allegedly operating or driving a boat while intoxicated (DWI) with child endangerment in St. Bernard Parish on March 6.

The agent arrested David S. Perret, 51, for DWI, careless operation, and failing to have a personal flotation device on a person under 17 years of age while underway.  Perret was booked into the St. Bernard Parish Jail.

LDWF Corporal Blaine Wagner was on patrol in Hopedale around 6 p.m. when he observed a smaller aluminum boat being operated by Perret near the Yscloskey Bridge.  Corporal Wagner observed three minors not wearing the required PFDs while the vessel was underway and also Perret operating his vessel in a careless manner.

Corporal Wagner made contact with Perret and he suspected he might be impaired.  Perret failed the standardized field sobriety tests on scene and was arrested for suspicion of DWI.  Perret later failed a breath alcohol analysis test and was booked into jail.

DWI with child endangerment brings a $300 to $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail.  Careless Operation brings a $300 fine and up to 30 days in jail.  Failing to have PFD on persons under 17 years of age while underway brings up to a $50 fine and 15 days in jail.
