WALLACE — Greenfield LLC has applied for a permit to construct a grain elevator and accompanying dock in Wallace for the purposes of facilitating the movement of more agricultural goods from U.S. farmers within the rural local and regional areas to end users throughout the world. It is expected to particularly enhance export trade to Asia, Central America, Europe and the Middle East.

A community meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight, March 10, to discuss the potential impacts of the project, especially as it relates to residents’ health and environmental concerns.

The Greenfield Louisiana project is expected to create 300-plus jobs during peak construction and 70 to 100 full-time jobs once operational. The grain elevator will have the ability to receive barges, trains and trucks from farmers. The construction is pinpointed for a previously undeveloped land parcel within the Port of South Louisiana.

The Port of South Louisiana submitted an application to the 2020 Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Transportation Discretionary Grants program seeking funding for the Greenfield Louisiana project.

According to the Port of South Louisiana, the project will have multiple dust collection systems to reduce environmental impacts.
