LAPLACE — Every year, as the country celebrates Catholic Schools Week, St. Charles Catholic High gets specific about celebrating the individuals that make SCC such a special place. This year, from February 1-5, the Comets dedicated each day to the special people of the community. Monday started the celebration with Blue & Gold Day as SCC prayed and gave treats to the Comet Community, including carpool line donuts from the Student Council and a dress-down day for all the students and teachers to show support for various clubs and sports.

On Tuesday, SCC held a raffle to celebrate the students. Throughout the day, students were called to the office to choose prizes from the raffle, including T-shirts, Dunkin Donuts gift cards and dress-down day cards.  Fr. Steve Dardis, pastor of Holy Family in Luling, celebrated Mass on campus in honor of Catholic Schools Week, and many of the students were recognized after Mass for their achievements in Catholicity essay writing, scholarship earnings and nominations for Students of the Quarter. Winners of Students of the Quarter, were Carter Ory, Scott Drouin, Abdel Nabut, Barry Cummins, Bryce Ory, Alejandra Menjivar, Laney Beadle, Mya Brown, Brooke Forsythe and Brynn Furgeson.

On Wednesday, community members, parents and students prayed for the nation and held a special service around the flagpole with parish officials, service men and women, firefighters, police officers and other first responders. Students also participated in the CSW Poster Contest, designing posters with their homerooms in order to share the ways they felt blessed for receiving a Catholic education.

On Thursday, the Comets prayed for vocations and got some special rosary bracelets from the Retreat Team. This group of seniors handed out their gifts in the hallways between classes as a surprise to the students. Students also took time in their Religion classes to write letters to their parents and teachers

Friday, for the final day of Catholic School’s Week, The Comet Friends and Family Club celebrated the faculty, staff and volunteers who together make SCC so much of what it is today.  The teacher’s lounge was filled with breakfast food and PJ’s iced coffee, and parent volunteers made goodie bags for the staff.
