Deborah Lois Lafitte, age 70, passed away peacefully at The Richard Murphy House in Hammond, LA on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Debbie was born July 21, 1950 in Homer, Louisiana to Dorothy McMahen and William C. Lafitte.

After graduating from Homer High School, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she resided until moving to the New Orleans Area. She loved everything about New Orleans, its customs and history. She received her real estate license in 1980 and practiced real estate for 39 years in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes where she made many lifelong friends and acquaintances over the years.

Debbie had a passion for decorating, cooking, and entertaining family and friends especially during Saints games and holidays. Most notably, she was a wonderful host and competitor of board games during Game Night. She was known for her generous spirit, outrageous stories, infectious laughter and sage advice. She as very well-loved by her wide circle of friends near and far and revered by many of her nieces and nephews whom she loved deeply as if they were her own children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dottie and Bill Lafitte; her brother, John Lafitte. Several aunts, uncles, cousins, and one special aunt, Lois McMahen Whitman, of whom she was named. She is survived by her lifelong partner of 43 years, Malcolm Falgoust of Norco, LA, her sister Betsy and husband Bob Robinson; her brother, William C. “Billy” Lafitte, Jr., all of Homer, LA. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, dearly loved by Aunt D, as she was fondly named.

Debbie will be buried at the family plot in Homer, LA. A memorial will be held on Monday, March 8, 2021 at H.C. Alexander Funeral Home, 821 Fourth St. Norco, LA, at 11 AM. Visitation will begin at 9 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
