To celebrate Black History Month, L’OBSERVATEUR will feature a different member of the local Black community each week. This week’s feature is with Pastor Alfreda J. DeVare.

Where are you from? Milesville, Louisiana

Tell us a little bit about yourself. I am the founder of Revelation Knowledge  Outreach.  I am a leader, role model and orator.  My focus is on our youth, to really guide them and send them in the right direction, as well as finding activities for them.

Who are some black role models you look up to, and why? My parents were the only role models known to me. They guided, directed, taught us morals and discipline. I have always looked up to them.

What does Black History Month mean to you? Every day is Black History. We were taught every one was equal in God’s eyes. Black History is created every day.

Why is it important to encourage diversity? In our society and way of life, everyone is different, and has different gifts.

What changes would you like to see in the local community? I would like to see more communication and unity in our community. Additionally, I think we need to pay more attention to the environment. It is affecting all of us. Many people are dealing with sickness, and we need to take a look at the environment.
