Today is National Thank a Mail Carrier Day. Try to make your parcel person feel that you’re gratuitous. They work six days a week, and 52 weeks a year. They are important essential workers, making sure all mail, packages and parcels end up at your door, PO box or mailbox, “Through rain or snow, or sleet or hail, we’ll carry the mail. We will not fail.” Take time out of your day and show your appreciation for your mail carrier.

Today in History: In 1794, France abolished slavery in her territories and conferred citizenship to former slaves.

Fun fact: Although France did abolish slavery in 1794, it was restored in 1802 by Napoleon to ensure sovereignty over France’s colonies. However, this in turn caused the people of Haiti to revolt two years later and declare independence from France in 1804, making Haiti the first country to abolish slavery in the modern era.

Lagniappe: Today is the birthday of Civil Rights activist, Rosa Parks, who refused to give up her seat to a white passenger.
