EDGARD — The West St. John Rams fell 35-75 to the St. Charles Catholic Comets on Tuesday night in high school basketball.

The Rams fiercely tried to hold off the Comets, but the Comets proved to be too much for the young Rams. When the Rams took the floor in the first quarter, they were running the court with the Comets. By the end of the first quarter, the score was 9-19 in favor of the Comets.

Although the Rams are young, they measured up in size against the Comets. The Rams hustled on fast break opportunities, but the shots just didn’t fall in their favor. By the end of the first half, the score was still within reach for the Rams, at 21-39.

The second half was a different story. The Rams made mistakes, and the Comets took full advantage by capitalizing on turnovers. The Comets also pushed the Rams full court by using pressure and outran them at times on the fast break.

The Comets slowed the game down at times to run their offense, which allowed them to get great rebounds and second chance shots. The Rams started to fall prey to foul trouble, which hindered their game even further. By the end of the third quarter, the Comets had a considerable lead over the Rams at 55-30.

In the fourth quarter, the Comets pulled away considerably, which forced the Rams to take outside shots, but the shots just wouldn’t fall.

The Comets continued their fast pace and, by the end of the game, the Comets had won with a score of 75-35 over the Rams. The Rams’ big contributor was Jared Bernard with 16 points.
