RESERVE — This week, Business Development Director Linda Prudhomme was recognized during January’s regular commission meeting, honoring her for the over 19 years of service to the Port of South Louisiana and celebrating the legacy of hard work and dedication she leaves behind as she retires.

Prudhomme has led regional programs to identify expansion opportunities for existing industries as well as national and international marketing efforts to attract new investment and corporate locations. Her hands-on experience and professional approach helped produce much needed additional jobs for the greater New Orleans region.

Prudhomme’s extensive knowledge of existing Louisiana industry, expertise in target marketing and collaborative efforts with the local economic development community has helped the Port of South Louisiana produce significant results. She has been responsible for the implementation of the strategic plan for the Port of South Louisiana, which has facilitated the attraction of new industries or expansion of existing ones based upon synergies of strength of the Port’s industrial base. In working with economic development allies within the Port district, she was responsible for facilitating new foreign investments, such as Formosa, South Louisiana Methanol and Yuhuang Chemicals,

amounting to $23.2 billion in capital investments and approximately 3,750 direct jobs for the tri-parish district. Taking the role of Director of Business Development is Julia Fisher-Perrier. Fisher-Perrier worked closely with Prudhomme since January 2020 as assistant director of business development in preparation for the transition. The Port of South Louisiana will miss Prudhomme but is looking forward to working with Julia for many years to come.

Founded in 1960, the Port of South Louisiana is a 54-mile port district on the Mississippi River between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, encompassing the parishes of St. Charles, St. John and St. James. The facilities located within the port’s district consistently handle over a quarter billion short tons of cargo annually, ranking it the largest tonnage port district in the Western Hemisphere (and the 16th largest in the world), the nation’s greatest grain exporter, and one of the major energy transfer ports in the United States.
