EDGARD — Fiest invites the community to come out in support of the world Dr. King dreamed of.

“Even with COVID and what’s going on in Washington, we just wanted to make sure that we keep working and striving for the betterment of this country,” Fiest said. “I would like to see everyone getting along and treating each other as one. Treat your brother as yourself and we wouldn’t have this problem.”

On the East Bank, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is typically celebrated with a march and a rally. Pastor Forell Bering Sr. is still hosting a celebration with Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and Victory Beyond the Walls Ministry; however, this year’s event will be hosted virtually through Facebook Live.

The virtual celebration will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 18 and can be accessed at the following link: facebook.com/bethlehemreserveor facebook.com/profile.php?id=1000029844155607
Additionally, Louisiana Fair Housing Action Center is hosting free virtual sum-
mits in Dr. King’s honor from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 14, 21 and 28 on Zoom. Register at lafairhousing.salsalabs.org
