Class 5A

The Hahnville girls basketball team is having a great season thus far with seven wins and three losses. Unfortunately, the Tigers ended a six-game win streak this week with a 48-52 loss against East Iberville on Monday. Last week, the team had three wins on the road against Chalmette, Scotlandville and Rayville to earn a No. 9 ranking in 5A as of Dec. 22. District play begins next week with a Dec. 29 away game against Destrehan.

The East St. John Lady Cats were ranked No. 24 in Class 5A with six wins and six losses as of Dec. 22. Following two losses in the Walker tournament over the weekend, East St. John started the week strong with a 69-24 win over East Jefferson. The team is 1-0 in District with a 51-40 win over Terrebonne earlier this month. East St. John will play another district game at home against Thibodaux on Dec. 29.

Destrehan was ranked 46th in Class 5A as of Dec. 22 with three wins and seven losses thus far. The team struggled to perform during the East St. John tournament held at the beginning of the month. During the Hahnville tournament, Destrehan won against Cabrini but lost two games to Warren Easton and West Jefferson. The team’s most recent success was a 42-39 victory over Central Lafourche. Destrehan will face district rival Hahnville on Dec. 29.

Class 3A

The St. James Wildcats seem to be sitting pretty with a No. 1 ranking in the girls basketball Class 3A as of Dec. 22. However, almost all of the early season games have been cancelled, and St. James has only played one game to date. That game resulted in a 57-45 win over St. Charles Catholic to close out 2020. Next up on the schedule is a Jan. 5 away game against John Ehret. District play begins Jan. 15 against E.D. White.

Lutcher was ranked 28th in Class 3A as of Dec. 22 with zero wins and two losses against Hanson Memorial and West St. John. Games against Covenant Christian, Vandebilt Catholic and St. Michael the Archangel were cancelled. Next up is a Jan. 5 game on the road against Destrehan, followed by a Jan. 8 game against West St. John. District play starts Jan. 12 against Donaldsonville.

Class 1A

West St. John was ranked No. 11 in Class 1A this week with three wins and zero losses for the season. The Lady Rams have overcome Morris Jeff Community (46-21), Lutcher (37-11) and Helen Cox (39-4). This week’s scheduled game against St. John was cancelled, so the team is looking forward to starting the New Year with a Jan. 5 game on the road against St. Charles Catholic. District play starts Jan. 15 against Riverside Academy.

Division III

St. Charles Catholic had two wins and two losses as of Dec. 22, leading to a No. 6 power ranking in Division III. The Lady Comets had early season wins against Northlake Christian (30-10) and Haynes Academy (46-40). Last week saw two losses against Archbishop Chapelle and St. James. The next scheduled game is at home Jan. 4 against Covington. District play begins Jan. 11 on the road against Louise McGehee.

Division IV

Riverside Academy was ranked ninth in Division IV this week with six wins and three losses. The Lady Rebels opened the season this month with three wins against Dunham, Family Christian and Livonia in the St. John tournament. Two of the three losses for the season were incurred last week against H.L. Bourgeois and Springfield in the Walker tournament. The Lady Rebels improved their record this week with a 45-33 win against French Settlement on Tuesday, and they look forward to facing South Plaquemines on Jan. 8. District play starts Jan. 14 against St. Martin’s Episcopal.
