This photo taken last week by local photographer Sidney Donaldson shows the dismantling of Christmas Eve bonfires along the Mississippi River after St. James and St. John the Baptist parishes cancelled the centuries old tradition for 2020. The decision to cancel the event in St. James Parish was forced by rising COVID-19 positivity rates in the area. The full story was covered in the Dec. 11 e-edition and can be found at lobservateur.com. Please see Sidney Donaldson Wedding Photography on Facebook for more high quality bonfire pictures in the “How the Grinch Stole Christmas Down the Bayou 2020 edition” photo collection.
