LAPLACE — Located at 936 Carrollwood Drive, V’s Café: Milkshake Bar & Grill is LaPlace’s newest destination for signature milkshakes, fresh beignets and a variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner selections.

V’s Café is planned to open seven days a week, from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 5 a.m. to midnight Thursday through Saturday and from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

The extended hours will serve the early birds and the night owls of the community, from plant workers heading into morning shifts to friends with a late night hankering for ice cream.

Trevor Greiner and Brittany Vicknair saw a need for a local restaurant offering flexible hours and more options than a fast food drive thru. The café will build upon their family’s tradition of entrepreneurship that has included a snoball stand and a French Quarter restaurant.

Marketing representative Allen Cutrer said V’s Café is primarily a dessert shop. Signature milkshakes go beyond the ordinary with extravagant creations. Cutrer said his personal favorite is the Cookie Monster milkshake, which includes vanilla ice cream dyed blue, whipped cream and crunchy chocolate chip cookie pieces.

Other signature milkshakes are the Shark Attack, Turtle and Birthday Cake. More flavors will be rolled out in the near future, according to the owners.

“We’ve partnered with Blue Bell, so we’ll have Blue Bell ice cream, banana splits and sundaes,” Cutrer said. “We’re also going to have a build-your-own milkshake bar where you can take some of the elements of our signature milkshakes and make it into something that’s your own.”

Those who cannot have dairy will find a wide selection of Southern Snoball flavors to satisfy their sweet tooth.

Handmade beignets are another signature offering at V’s Café, available all day, seven days a week. Tasty breakfast sandwiches and platters are also available. A partnership with Community Coffee means the coffee is always hot and ready for customers.

The daily lunch and dinner menu features selections such as 10 oz. hamburgers made with fresh beef, New Orleans inspired poboys, salads and soups. A diverse appetizer menu offers favorites like crispy onion rings, waffle fries, nachos and chicken tenders. Bottled drinks, chips and energy drinks can be purchased at the counter.

Finger sandwich, French bread and meatball party trays are also on the menu.

The owners stated that indoor dining is available, and facemasks are required upon entry. Tables will also be set up for outdoor patio dining.

Cutrer believes LaPlace will be a great market for the new business.

“There are no other family-oriented places in LaPlace that are open late at night. It’s a great family town, so people can bring their kids. Our price points are made for families. We want people to come in, eat a good meal and have some dessert afterwards,” Cutrer said. “We’re also near the I-55, I-10 interchange, so we can draw people all the way from New Orleans or Metairie, or even people coming down from Mississippi.”

The opening of V’s Café has also helped the local business climate by providing jobs for locals who would have otherwise been laid off due to the financial hardships of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Cutrer said business owners reached out to café owners prior to the opening to find jobs for people in need.
