Halloween is right around the corner! The St. John the Baptist Parish Library System will be joining the parish in celebrating by participating in the St. John the Baptist Parish Trunk or Treat. Join us tonight from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Juan Anthony Joseph Memorial Park in Edgard and again tomorrow from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Parish Community Center in LaPlace. Tomorrow, patrons will also have access to take Halloween photos by stopping by the Norris J. Millet, Sr. Library before heading to the trunk or treat. For more information, please call 985-652-6857. The Frazee-Harris Memorial Library (Garyville) will have Halloween Grab & Go bags for patrons to create one-of-a-kind canvases. For more information, please call 985-535-6868.

It’s that time of year again, where we plan to sit down and eat with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving. A time when the world gets to see just how blessed we really are. The emphasis is not on giving or buying, but on being thankful and expressing that appreciation to one another. I’ve heard many people say that Thanksgiving is their favorite holiday. Is that surprising? Though it’s a holiday sandwiched between the increasingly popular Halloween and the overwhelming merchandised Christmas, Thanksgiving remains the holiday of “coming home.” Our national observance of Thanksgiving is unique. It is a holiday for celebrating faith, family and freedom. St. John the Baptist Parish Library System will be celebrating Thanksgiving with a variety of programs.

The Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library will host a passive “Thankful Tree” program. Patrons will be allowed to write down things that they are thankful for during this holiday season and attach it to a fall tree. For more information, call 985-536-4107. Children, ages 5 and up are welcome to make “Fall Leaves Paper Plate Wreaths.” The grab and go bags will be available for pick-up a week before Thanksgiving. For more information, call 985-652-6857, ext. 1501. St. John the Baptist Parish Library System will host a Thanksgiving Coloring Contest from Monday, Nov. 2 through Friday, Nov. 20 for children ages 0 to 5 and 6 to 11 years old. Coloring sheets can be picked up and dropped off at any of our libraries. Winners will be announced on Monday, Nov. 30. They will receive a prize, and the winning sheets will be posted on our Facebook page.

Story time is back at the Central Library! Join us weekly starting Thursday, Nov. 5, on our outdoor patio, for wonderful stories, songs and craft for kits. Children ages 0 to 5 along with their parents or caregivers are welcome to attend on Thursdays in November. We look forward to seeing you again. For more information, call 985-652-6857, ext. 1501.

Please join us for these programs and a whole lot more by following St. John the Baptist Parish Library on Facebook, Instagram (stjohnparishlib) and Twitter (StJohnLib4). All programs will be posted throughout the month of November. Don’t forget to check out our new website (stjohnlib.com) to learn everything that we have to offer. Also, St. John the Baptist Parish Libraries will be closed in observance of Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11 and in observance of Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27.
