EDGARD — Friday night lights was everything football fans expected in the River Parishes, and many schools came up with big wins. West St. John was no exception with Friday night’s 44-0 win over Lusher.

The first play of the game came up as a touchdown by the Rams to start the season and the game off on a positive note. The Rams continued to keep the intensity on their opponent throughout the game. Lusher’s offense was no match for West St. John’s defensive line. The defense continually pounded the Lusher’s offense, causing Lusher to turn over the ball continuously. Defensively there were many big plays, led by Edwards and Roussell, which contributed greatly to the Ram’s success on offense. The defense continually gave the Rams the field advantage by keeping Lusher confined.

The Ram’s offensive game, led by Hamilton and Roberson, came up with quite a few yards and touchdowns. West St. John’s passing and running game was on point, even with a few penalties. The final score was Rams 44 Lusher 0. Overall, the Rams couldn’t have a better, more befitting showing for their first game of the season. Congratulations to the Rams! This Friday Night couldn’t have ended any better!

The other River Parish schools followed suit with their first game showings. Lutcher, who actually played Thursday night, gained their first victory of the season against Frederick Douglass 54-26. St. James, continuing from last year’s winning season, defeated Riverdale 55-6. St. Charles Catholic came up with a big win over Slidell 17-0 and Hahnville defeated L.W. Higgins 49-0. Destrehan fell to St. Paul’s 14-22 this week. East. St. John and Riverside will make their debuts on Saturday.
