LAPLACE — Despite the rainy weather, a host of volunteers including residents, community organizations, government agencies, churches, schools and businesses joined St. John the Baptist Parish President Jaclyn Hotard and the Parish Council for a successful “Team Up to Clean Up” day.

Volunteers were given the option to choose a specific area to clean or assigned one in an effort to ensure a cleanup presence parish-wide.

“I knew that I wanted this year’s event to look different by identifying areas of focus in each Council District,” said President Hotard. “I am amazed at the turnout in the rain and want to sincerely thank everyone including our Council who gathered teams for their areas. The many helping hands and hearts of all who joined us is a true testament of St. John’s spirit of teamwork and togetherness despite COVID-19 and I couldn’t be prouder.”

In taking all precautions against COVID-19, participants received supplies in advance including garbage bags, gloves, t-shirts, vests and trash clamps.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to continue cleanup efforts as we undergo the peak of hurricane season. “Please assist the Parish by not sweeping or dumping leaves, grass clippings, litter, motor oil or anything else in storm drains and catch basins,” President Hotard added.
