LAPLACE — For each Louisianan that goes uncounted, it is estimated that Louisiana loses out on $2,291 in federal funding that is much needed for the recovery road ahead.

St. John United Way has joined United Ways throughout Louisiana and the United States in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of responding to the 2020 Census by September 30.

St. John United Way joined a call with Governor John Bel Edwards Wednesday afternoon in honor of Louisiana Census Day. Currently, Louisiana has a 57.5 percent self-response rate, but the response in many of our rural communities is even lower.

St. John the Baptist Parish’s total response rate is 60.5 percent. Of those, 44.9 percent were completed over the Internet.

Those who have not completed the 2020 Census are asked to please visit my2020census.gov or call 844-330-2020 to submit the Census by phone.

The Census is a simple 10-question process that should take fewer than 10 minutes to complete.
