HAHNVILLE — Effective Aug. 25, 2020, longtime St. Charles Parish Councilwoman Wendy Benedetto will resign the position of Councilwoman At-Large, Division A.

Benedetto said she is blessed to have served on the Council for more than 12 years.

“In 2007, I qualified to run for the Council because it was what I wanted to do for my community. Today, I am resigning because it is what I need to do for my family. My family members need me now more than ever due to various personal reasons,” Benedetto said. “I like to think I am the type of person who knows when I can contribute and when it is time to allow another person to step in with new energy and focus on the future of our great parish.”

Benedetto is proud to have been part of many drainage and flood protection projects, including the work done to complete the East Bank Levee and finance and construct the West Bank Flood Protection System.

In 2013, St. Charles Parish led the fight to save the National Flood Insurance Program and ultimately passed the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act, allowing residents affordable flood insurance rates.

“We came together and did the unheard of, passing a bipartisan bill through Congress,” Benedetto said.

As a former parent of children in the St. Charles Parish Recreation Program, she is proud of the investments over the years in expanding recreational opportunities for residents through improvements to fields, bike paths, splash parks and boat launches throughout the parish.
