Destiny Christian Center commemorates 21 years

The first service at Destiny Christian Center, then known as New Homes Ministries – LaPlace, took place on Aug. 8, 1999 with 32 members in attendance. The church, located at 612 Main Street in LaPlace, is now celebrating 21 years.

Pastor Steve O. Allen Sr. has seen families on the brink of destruction come back together through participation in the ministry. The challenges people in the community face remind Allen of the mistakes he made before God set him on a better path.

Destiny Christian Center also reaches out to the youth through mentorship opportunities and scholarships for high school graduates.

Frostop makes 62 years on Highway 61

Morris Terry built Frostop in 1958. Located at 411 E. Airline Highway, the restaurant is the longest surviving business in LaPlace and has received national acclaim.

Morris Terry’s daughter, Evelyn, and her husband Jimmy Toler took over the business in 1973. Evelyn and Jimmy’s daughter, Terry, joined the family establishment after graduating from Louisiana State University in 1993.

The restaurant has kept its familiar drive-in atmosphere through the years, presenting a link to the good old days with always-delicious Lot-O-burgers and frosted mug root beer.
