Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

St. John the Baptist Parish Library System is offering services including curbside, live chat, emails and phone calls at all four library locations. When our physical locations initially shut down, virtual programming was introduced using our social media platforms. Here are some programs that we will be offering virtually for adult patrons and children for the month of August.

Every month, a community member will be highlighted for their contributions to the parish. For the month of August, Jamman Kenner, an East St. John High School graduate and now an Ob-Gyn. will be featured. Kenner strives to inspire the youth of this parish by letting them know that the sky is not the limit; they can reach far beyond. For more information about this community program, call (985) 652-6857.

Shanel Morris, library assistant at the Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library (Reserve) will be offering quick “Air Frying Cooking Tips” that she has learned from using the device. One tip is to add water to the air fryer drawer when cooking fatty foods. This helps prevent grease from getting too hot and smoking. For more information, call (985) 536-4107.

Carlos Diaz, supervisor of the Roland Borne Sr. Memorial Library (Edgard) will host a “Book Talk” for the month of August; featuring “Station Eleven.” The novel takes place in the Great Lakes region after a fictional swine flu pandemic, known as the “Georgia Flu,” devastates the world, killing most of the population. For more information about this program, call (985) 497-3453.

“Make Shoppe” will be held through the ZOOM app. Join Rona Joseph, our program coordinator, for a virtual crafter-noon from the comfort of your home. Connect with friends, old and new, while social distancing. All supplies will be provided for pickup before program day. For more information, call (985) 652-6857, ext. 1502.

Patrons can test their sports knowledge with a fun trivia game. Carlos Diaz, supervisor of the Roland Borne Sr. Memorial Library will host the game for sport lovers to indulge in. For more information, call (985) 497-3453.

Olivia Boudreaux, library assistant at the Norris J. Millet Sr. Library, will create a video informing recent high school graduates of tips about online college classes. For more information, call (985) 652-6857, ext. 1102.

Children’s/Outreach Librarian, Trina Smith will host programs for children of all ages. The programs will explore books, STEM activities, crafts and videos introducing them to the world of art, outer space, superheroes and life under the sea throughout the month of August. For more information, call (985) 652-6857, ext. 1501.

LaDean Troutt, reference assistant at the Frazee-Harris Memorial Library (Garyville) will host a “Simply Paint” session where children, ages 8 and up are able to paint a beautiful summertime beach themed photo. All supplies will be provided for pickup. For more information, call (985) 535-6868.

Story time will be hosted weekly. This is a time for young children, ages 1 to 5, and their parents or caretakers to interact in a comfortable setting. Each session will include stories, rhymes, finger plays and sing-alongs. If you’re interested in stimulating your young one’s mind, join us! For more information, call Trina Smith, children’s/outreach librarian, at (985) 652-6857, ext. 1501.
