Woodrow Wilson Mitchell Jr., aged 74, passed away from his earthly home on July 10, 2020. He was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson Mitchell Sr. and Mary Dorothy Keller Mitchell and was the devoted husband of the late Regina Young Mitchell for nearly 50 years. He was a native of Reserve and a resident of Gramercy. He is survived by his beloved children Alicia Mitchell and Galen Mitchell Sr. (Keionne) and by his devoted sisters Carolyn Jones and Mary Dorothy Mitchell. He was the loving grandfather of Briann, Chaze, Galen Jr., Kristen, Kerston, Jalen and KaiLynn Mitchell, Kevon Adams and step-grandfather of Kiev Harry. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Orquedia Brown-Duplessis, Chassidy, Jeremai, and Blair Rose Mitchell, and O’Ceon Johnson. His family was the joy of his life. He also leaves to cherish his memory one uncle Ronnie Keller (Lorenza Robert), one uncle-in-law Detroit Pidgeon Sr., one aunt-in-law Althea Keller, three sisters-in-law Ella Roberts, Rose Young, and Elaine Jones, and a host of nieces, nephews, nine godchildren, other relatives and friends. He was a devout member of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Gramercy where he served as Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Minister of Hospitality and a member of the Cluster Parish Council. He spent countless hours volunteering wherever and whenever he was needed. He retired from Marathon Refinery as a Process Operations Supervisor and was later employed by St. James Parish Government as a transit driver and instructor for thirteen years until his failing health would not allow him to continue. Our family expresses sincere appreciation to Keionne Harry Mitchell for her love, dedication, and the excellent medical care she gave to her father-in-law. Thank you to all priests, ministers, medical professionals and their teams, and for all prayers, Masses, cards, and expressions of kindness and concern from those who knew and loved him. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, July 17, and interment followed in St. Peter Cemetery in Reserve. Duplain W. Rhodes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
