On Monday, July 20, 2020, , loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away at age 86. Velma was born on June 14, 1934, in Vacherie, LA to Melford and Leonise Dempster. She married Leonard Falgoust, Jr. in 1952; and they raised two sons, Brian (Annie) and Ted (Cassie), and their daughter, Myra Simon (Reggie).

Velma had a passion for people. She never met a stranger and was a friend to all. She devoted her life to her family and was committed to her career with St. James Parish working with the senior citizens. She had an ongoing sense of adventure whether it be traveling cross country or just out shopping with her family. Her love was felt by anyone who crossed her path. She was “Mema” and “Aunt” to all.

Velma was preceded in death by her father, Melford; her mother, Leonise; her husband, Leonard; and sister, Rosa (Sydney) Kliebert.

She is survived by her children, Brian (Annie), Myra Simon (Reggie) and Ted (Cassie); her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Bart (Amy) Simon- Jackson, Jillian, Shelby; Kassie (Demian) Barrancotto- Connor and Josie; Tiffany Simon; Kristina (Brett) Dupré- Edith and Marcel; Nathan Falgoust (Collin and Evelyn); Brian Falgoust Jr.; Abbey (Ryan) Gonzalez; Dylan (Dusti) Falgoust and Samantha Falgoust; sisters, Mildred (Guy) Tregre and Melodie (Herbert) Tregre; a brother, Melford (Joan) Dempster; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Thibodaux Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 22nd from 4-9pm. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Peace Church at 1pm on Thursday, July 23rd.

When Christ shall come,
With shouts of acclamation,
And take me home,
What joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow
In humble adoration
And there proclaim,
“My God, How Great Thou Art”
