RESERVE – This year’s Fourth of July Veterans Luncheon was altered to a drive-thru style event in light of COVID-19 concerns.

St. John the Baptist Parish President Jaclyn Hotard and staff were joined by Councilwomen Tammy Houston and Tyra Duhe-Griffin, along with District Attorney Bridget A. Dinvaut and her staff, to pass out lunches to local veterans at REGALA Gym in Reserve. Personnel from the Fire Department and the St. John Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the effort.

“Today’s drive-thru lunch is one way to express our sincere gratitude to our local veterans,” Hotard said on the day of the event. “I would like to wish all of our veterans and residents a safe and happy Fourth of July.”

The annual Independence Day firework show did not take place this year due to Louisiana’s social distancing regulations being uncertain at the time the fireworks needed to be ordered. Parish officials look forward to once again hosting this family friendly event for the public next year.
