The annual Independence Day Celebration and Firework Show is cancelled for 2020.

LAPLACE — The Annual St. John the Baptist Parish Firework Show has been cancelled due to the uncertainty of social distancing guidelines,  while the Veterans’ Luncheon will be modified to a pick-up lunch with more details to be announced.

“At the time the firework contractor required a decision to be made, the Parish was still under a strict stay-at-home order so the uncertainty would not allow us to responsibly move forward,” said Parish President Hotard. “We look forward to successful events in 2021.”

St. John Parish, however, will continue its tradition of honoring local military members by showing a video adorned with pictures of service members on communication outlets.  Residents are asked to submit photos of local veterans and service members for the video.

Please email photos to the Communications Department at communications@stjohn-la.gov, drop off to the Dropbox outside the Government Complex Building  or mail to St. John Communications Department Attn: Veterans Tribute, 1811 W. Airline Hwy, Laplace, LA 70068.

Photos in military uniforms are requested but not required.

Please include the veteran’s name, rank and branch of service with the photo, as well as the contact information and name of the family member submitting the photo.

If a photo was submitted in the last three years, it is not necessary to submit a new photo. The deadline to submit pictures is 4 p.m. Friday, June 26.
