LAPLACE — Sheriff Mike Tregre announced that Madison Duhe is the 2019-20 winner of the academic scholarship presented by the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association Scholarship Program.
Duhe, a 2020 graduate of East St. John High in Reserve, will attend Southeastern Louisiana University to study kinesiology and aspires to be an athletic trainer with a professional sports team. She is the daughter of Chad and Jody Duhe of Reserve. She will receive $500 for educational expenses.
Duhe’s application was among several received from graduating seniors attending all St. John Parish high schools. Qualities such as academic achievement, leadership, character and community involvement are considered. An impartial board reviewed applications and submitted its recommendations to Tregre.
The Louisiana Sheriffs’ Educational Scholarship Program awards $500 to graduating high school students in parishes where the sheriffs are members of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program. Funding for the scholarship is made possible through the support of honorary members. An applicant must be a permanent resident of Louisiana, use the scholarship for higher education within the state and be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student.
