Tuesday update: St. John reports 848 COVID-19 cases

LAPLACE — There were 848 of reported COVID-19 cases and 77 deaths in St. John the Baptist Parish on Tuesday, according to the Louisiana Department of Health. This marks an increase of 3 cases and no deaths since Monday’s report.
St. Charles Parish has 625 reported cases and 44 deaths, while St. James has 292 reported cases and 25 deaths.
Statewide, there are 38,054 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across all 64 parishes. This marks an increase of 245 cases since Monday’s report.
There were 2,596 deaths statewide as of Tuesday, which was an increase of 11 since Monday’s report. The first death in the state was reported on March 14.
According to the Louisiana Department of Health, there are 831 COVID-19 patients in hospitals across the state. Of these patients, 103 are on ventilators.
The state is now reporting that 28,700 people who have tested positive are presumed to have recovered as of May 24.

-Barber shops, nail salons, hair salons and bars that offer food service, casinos and video poker, museums, zoos and aquariums can operate at a 25 percent of their normal capacity.
St. John curfew has been lifted.
St. John Sheriff, Mike Tregre, announced the overnight curfew put into place April 1 in St. John the Baptist Parish expired as the parish moved to Phase One under the White House COVID-19 guidance. This removes the Stay at Home order for Louisianans and allows additional businesses to open under strict occupancy, protection and social distancing guidelines.
