DESTREHAN – Destrehan High School was identified on MaxPreps’ list of 98 high schools that have produced the most NFL talent in the past 20 years.

The list examined schools across the country that had five or more alumni selected in the NFL draft since the year 2000. Destrehan High School made the list after Justin Jefferson was drafted to the Minnesota Vikings last week as the 22nd pick of the first round of the NFL Draft.

Jefferson joins Destrehan alumni Ed Reed (2006, Baltimore Ravens), Mike Scifres (2006, Cincinnati Bengals), Jeremy Parquet (2008, Atlanta Falcons) and Darryl Richard (2008, Cleveland Browns) in establishing a professional football career.

Dutchtown High School in Geismar also made the top 98 list with five alumni selected for the NFL in the past 20 years: Eric Reid (2013, San Francisco 49ers); Eddie Lacy (2013, Green Bay Packers); Landon Collins (2015, New York Giants); Justin Reid (2018, Houston Texans); and Lloyd Cushenberry (2020, Broncos).

Much of the NFL talent over the past 20 years has come from Florida and California. St. Thomas Acquinas, located in Fort Lauderdale in Florida, has had the best NFL track record of all high schools in the country with 23 alumni drafted in the past 20 years.
